Suicide Prevention Hotline:
9-8-8
UPDATE April 3, 2023 related to COVID-19 and Flu. Due to the governments changing post-pandemic rules insurance companies are starting to look at coverage changes. Will keep you all updated. If you are feeling ill I would prefer you reschedule, or we can do telehealth. Insurance companies are still allowing Teletherapy visits. Make sure you check with your insurance that this benefit is covered. Understand that with telehealth there are some limits to confidentiality depending on where you are during the call and who is listening. Also, make sure you have a solid internet connection. If you are symptomatic or feeling ill please do not come in. Please be aware that if you are not feeling like you can keep yourself safe or are struggling with any suicidal thoughts, please get yourself to a local ER.
Also: my cash rate fees will be increasing in January 2023. A 1hr session will now be $100, 45 min session will be $80, and a 30 min session will remain $60.

How long will I have to come to therapy?
It really depends on what you want to work on. If we are using EMDR to process trauma it can be as few as 8 sessions and as many as 30. This will be something we discuss during the first session in order to plan treatment.
What are your credentials?
I received my Master's in Social Work in 2009 and then my Clinical License in 2012. I also became a certified EMDR therapist in 2021. I am also a Certified First Responder Counselor and received my certification in July of 2022.
What is your experience working with trauma?
I have been working with lots of different types of trauma since 2001. I have worked with folks struggling with childhood trauma and sexual traumas since that time. In the last 4 years I have begun working with Fire and EMS treating PTSD due to on the job exposure.
What if I don't want to work on trauma?
That is completely fine, therapy can be helpful for so many things. It can be a place to vent about work and life, process grief, or strategize upcoming life changes. I believe that therapy is a lot like taking your car in for an oil change. We do it regularly to ensure our car is running properly for as long as possible. Therapy can serve the same purpose for our brains. Although my specialty is trauma I have had many people come to me stating that they had a pretty good childhood and don't feel like they have anything "traumatic" to talk about. I prefer to use the word "impactful". If you have memories that you can recall and they elicit some amount of emotion for you, that is an impactful memory. We can process that and make that memory less impactful for you now.
I've never done counseling before, what should I expect?
During the first session I'll be asking a lot of questions to get a general idea of your life history. After that, it's really up to you. You are the driver of this bus. Each session we will check in on the week's prior and then dive into something that is important to you to focus on at that time.
***Please note: Sometimes finding a counselor is like finding a pair of pants. Not every pair you try on will fit. My personality and style of therapy will not click for everyone. Please don't think this means therapy is not for you. There are loads of competent and compassionate therapists out there. If you don't like me, I can definitely give you the names of some other practitioners who may be a better fit for you.
